RWE has achieved start-up for the 60MW Lisdrumdoagh energy storage facility in County Monaghan, Ireland. This is RWE’s second energy storage project to come online in the country.
RWE Renewables has stated that the investment required to bring Lisdrumdoagh online is calculated at €25m.
The Lisdrumdoagh project is a battery system featuring an electrical substation, inverter and transformer modules, security equipment and cabling. The system is connected to the Lisdrum 110kV substation.
Besides balancing intermittency though a faster delivery of energy into the grid, RWE also expects Lisdrumdoagh to serve as a back-up during power outages.
