Construction for the 1.026GW MacIntyre wind farm precint has officially begun. The total investment required for the project is estimated at A$2bn (US$1.4bn).
The precint entails the establishment of two farms: the 103MW Karara farm and the 923MW MacIntyre farm, both the start operations in 2024.
With 18 turbines to be installed, Karara will be owned and operated by state-owned CleanCo Queensland, being Queensland’s first wind farm belonging to a public entity.
MacIntyre, meanwhile, will see the installation of 162 turbines and will be owned and operated by Acciona. The developer has stated that it will be the largest onshore wind farm of the southern hemisphere upon completion.
The construction of the entire initiative will generate 400 jobs, with further transmission works adding 220 jobs.
