Ørsted acquires 302MW wind farm in Illinois, US

26 Nov 2021

Ørsted has acquired Lincoln Land Wind, a 302 MW onshore wind farm in Illinois, US, from funds managed by Ares Management Corporation’s Infrastructure and Power strategy.

The onshore wind farm, which is located in Morgan County, began commercial operation last week. It was developed by Apex Clean Energy and sold to Ares in February this year.

The Lincoln Land Wind project is fully contracted through the long-term fixed-price Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with Meta (formerly Facebook) and McDonald's last year.

Meta and McDonald's will purchase approximately 175MW and 126MW of Lincoln Land Wind power generation capacity, respectively.

Through the acquisition of the Lincoln Land Wind project, Ørsted entered the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO) market, which covers 15 states in the Midwest and Southern US states.

The acquisition has raised Ørsted Onshore's total production capacity in the United States to more than 4.2GW, which is made up of assets that are either in operation or under construction.

The Lincoln Land Wind project, powered by 107 GE 2.82-127 turbines, has enough generating capacity to meet the electricity needs of 102,500 American homes.
