Thailand's first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project has been announced by PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP). The development will be associated with the Arthit gas field, requiring a total investment of approximately US$320m over five years.
The Arthit CCS project is planned to feature a storage capacity of one million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. Existing infrastructure will be used in the initiative as well as new-build facilities.
First injection is expected in 2028. Thailand intends to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the end of the decade.
