Cerulean Winds has submitted an offshore consent application to be assessed by Scottish authorities for its Aspen project. The floating offshore wind farm is planned to feature 72 turbines and have a generation capacity of 1GW.
According to the developer (a consortium formed by NOV, Siemens Energy, Bilfinger and Ocean Installer), the power plant's construction phase should create approximately 1,000 jobs. During its 50-year operational life, Aspen should attract a total investment of over £10bn.
Start-up is expected by the end of the decade, ahead of the neighbouring 1GW Cedar and 1GW Beech floating offshore wind farms, also in development by Cerulean Winds.
