Southern Energy SA (SESA) has announced final investment decision (FID) for the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel of its Southern Energy project in Argentina. Southern Energy is a consortium formed by Pan American Energy, Pampa Energía, YPF, Harbour Energy and Golar LNG for the development of Argentina's LNG export capacity.
The initiative will charter two of Golar LNG's liquefaction vessels, Hilli Episeyo and MKII, which will process gas sourced from the onshore Vaca Muerta shale gas reserves. Hilli Episeyo has operations scheduled to start in 2027, while MKII should follow in 2028.
Total processing capacity is estimated at six million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG.
