Statera, developer of the Kintore hydrogen project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, has selected Aker Solutions as the project's owner's engineer. Aker Solutions will work on Kintore's first development phase, which encompasses 500MW of the 3GW facility.
The Kintore project intends to use surplus electricity generated by offshore wind farms in Scotland for the production of green hydrogen. This hydrogen output will be then used for the decarbonisation of power plants and industrial sites throughout the country.
According to the contract, Aker Solutions will be responsible for providing technical assurance and support to Kintore's front-end engineering design (FEED) phase. Statera awarded the project's FEED contract to Worley.
The schedule expects FEED works to be concluded this year still, with a final investment decision (FID) coming in 2025. The complete 3GW plant should be operational by 2030.
