LNG Canada, a consortium led by Shell that also includes PetroChina, Petronas, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), has informed that its Coastal GasLink project is nearing completion. Approximately 92% of all construction activities have already been concluded.
The project consists of the installation of a 670km natural gas pipeline leading to LNG Canada, the country's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal.
Coastal GasLink's main EPC contractor, TC Energy, calculates that the final cost of the pipeline's construction will be US$14.5bn. Once complete, it will be able to transport 60 to 90 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
