Svitzer has secured a 15-year contract to provide towage and support services for the Alexandroupolis liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. The project, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) by Gastrade, will have a storage capacity of 154,000 cubic metres of LNG and a natural gas supply capacity that will exceed 5.5bn cubic metres per year.
The contract includes supporting the FSRU with a 28-kilometre pipeline system connecting the floating unit to the Greek national natural gas transmission system and ultimately to end-users in Greece and the Balkans.
To aid in the delivery of LNG by the FSRU and LNG carriers, the contractor will provide four new ASD tugboats fully staffed by Greek crew. The tugboats will provide berthing, deberthing, navigational assistance, and additional terminal services such as firefighting, pollution control, piloting, and boarding party transfer.
In addition, Svitzer will provide support and station-keeping services during the initial installation of the FSRU.
