A consortium formed by GE and Cobra Infrastructuras Hidráulicas has been chosen by Red Eléctrica, Spain’s national electric system operator, for a contract related to the Chira Soria project. The initiative intends to build a 200MW hydro power plant in the Gran Canaria region.
GE and Cobra will supply the Chira Soria plant with six pumped storage turbines, each with a capacity of 37MW, besides providing the design, transport, and commissioning of generators, main transformers, and equipment for electrical balance-of-plant.
Once complete, which is expected in 2027, Chira Soria will have an energy storage capacity of 3.5GWh.
