Sponsors of the Moonsoon wind power project, which includes Mitsubishi, have obtained US$692m in financing for the initiative from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Asian Development Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, and other institutions.
Planned to be Southeast Asia’s largest onshore wind farm, Moonsoon will be a 600MW facility across the Sekong and Attapeu provinces in Laos. Requiring a total investment of US$950M, the project will see the installation of over 130 wind turbines.
Construction is scheduled to start this year, while operations are slated to start in 2025. A 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vietnam Electricity for the entirety of Moonsoon’s output has already been secured.
