SSE has disclosed an investment plan worth £100m for its planned Coire Glas pumped hydro project. With a potential capacity of 1.5GW, the project will be located in Loch Lochy and will require a total investment of over £1.5bn.
The project is designed to provide 30GWh of long-term storage once operational.
The amount announced by SSE will be used to boost the development of Coire Glas, which will go through the detailed project design and refinement, construction planning and procurement phases throughout 2023 and 2024.
If progress is made, a final investment decision (FID) is expected in 2024. Coire Glas should then reach start-up by 2031.
