Eni and Chevron have recently disclosed a major new gas discovery made in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt. Approximately 200ft of Miocene and Oligocene gas bearing sandstones were found by the Stena Forth drillship.
The Nargis-1 exploration well was drilled in a water depth of 1,014ft and could hold up to 3.5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas.
The well is part of the larger Nargis block, operated by Chevron with a stake of 45%. Eni (45%) and Tharwa Petroleum Company (10%) are also involved in the project.
