Ecopetrol has selected Total Eren as the developer, financer, builder and operator of the 100MWp Rubiales solar farm. The plant will be built on the site of the Rubiales onshore heavy oil field operated by Ecopetrol in Colombia.
The Rubiales photovoltaic (PV) park will feature 180,000 monocrystalline bifacial panels, enough to meet the needs of an average Colombian city with 150,000 citizens.
About 24,000 tonnes of CO2 are expected to be stopped annually due to the plant’s installation.
Total Eren will hold 51% of the initiative, while Ecopetrol will retain the remaining 49%.
Construction is scheduled to start in this quarter still, while operations should begin in early 2024.
