Malaysia’s Shell division, Sabah Shell Petroleum Company (SSPC), has confirmed that it’s moving ahead with the fourth development phase of the Gumusut-Kakap-Geronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) project.
Along with partners ConocoPhillips Sabah, Petronas Carigali, PTTEP Sabah Oil Limite, Pertamina Malaysia Eksplorasi Produksi and others, Shell has declared a final investment decision (FIP) for GKGJE 4, with start-up scheduled for 2024.
The deepwater offshore development will consist of the drilling of four wells which will be tied back to the Gumusut-Kakap (GK) semi-submerisble floating production system (FPS), a unit already operated by SSPC off the coast of Sabah.
Last July, phase 3 of the GK project entered full operations, achieving first oil according to schedule despite challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
