The Brazilian branch of Engie has signed a turbine supply deal with Vestas for the first phase of the Serra de Assuruá wind farm. The project, which is going to have an initial capacity of 540MW, will be installed in the state of Bahia.
According to the contract, Vestas is expected to supply 120 of the V150-4.5MW turbine. Installation, operation and maintenance services will also be provided by the company.
The contract also establishes that it’s possible for Engie to request another 68 turbines by the end of 2022. These would be related to the second phase of Serra de Assuruá.
First power at the plant is scheduled for the second half of 2024. After it’s fully operational, total capacity is calculated at 856MW for Serra de Assuruá, which will become Latin America’s largest wind power facility.
