Aquaterra Energy and Seawing have announced the joint development of a 3.2GW project. Planned to be installed offshore Italy, the undertaking will combine floating offshore wind and green hydrogen production.
HyMed, as it has been named, will be the world’s largest hybrid plant of its kind.
The first stage of licencing is currently ongoing, with permits for the grid connection under assessment as well as the environmental impact studies.
The offshore engineering and green hydrogen aspects of the project will benefit from Aquaterra’s expertise in these areas. Seawind, meanwhile, will be involved with the floating offshore wind technology.
Operations at HyMed are likely to begin by 2027.
