NewMed Energy, one of Chevron’s partners in the Aphrodite project with a 30% stake, has disclosed that the field’s A-3 well will be drilled in the first half of 2023. An amount of US$130m was authorised by the developers for this work.
Stena Forth has been contracted by the operator for the drilling of the well offshore Cyprus.
A-3 will not only allow developers to know more about the reservoir’s specificities, but also serve as a producing well when development is complete.
Another budget worth US$62m will be destined to Aphrodite’s pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) studies.
Chevron estimates that Aphrodite contains 124 billion cubic metres of gas. Besides Chevron’s 35% operating stake and NewMed Energy’s 30%, Shell holds the remaining 35% share of Aphrodite.
