Pattern Energy and its Japanese partner Green Power Investment (GPI) have announced the financial close of its proposed Ishikari offshore wind and energy storage project. To be located 3km off the coast of Ishikari Bay, the plant will have a capacity of 112MW.
The battery energy storage system (BESS) to be adjacent to the farm will have a capacity of 100MW/180MWh.
Financing was arranged by MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mizuho Bank, Development Bank of Japan, Société Générale and Shinshei Bank.
Once complete, Ishikari will be Japan’s largest offshore wind and energy storage plant. The project will also be responsible for the country’s first installation of an 8MW offshore wind turbine.
Start-up is expected in December 2023, with construction already underway. Ishikari’s power output will be entirely delivered to Hokkaido Electric Power Network after a 20-year power purchase agreement previously signed.
