Chile’s National Electric Coordinator has given Enel Green Power, Enel’s local subsidiary in the country, approval to start commercial operations at the Azabache photovoltaic (PV) power plant.
Placed in the Atacama desert, close to the city of Calama, the 60.9MW facility was built next to Enel’s 90MW Valle de los Vientos wind farm.
Together, both the plants compose the first hybrid utility-scale project of this kind in the country.
Azabache features over 150,000 bifacial panels, being able to produce approximately 184GWh of power per year. This amount will prevent the emission of 135,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
