The German government has announced that the Brunsbüttel liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Elbe port, Hamburg, will see its construction started in September 2022. Commissioning should take place late this year or early 2023.
Activities will be split in three phases. The first one, beginning in September, will involve the construction of an interim solution for the hazardous goods berth. Also part of this phase, construction of a three-kilometre-long natural gas transmission line will start in October.
The second phase will cover building a new jetty from November to March 2023
The final phase, going from November 2022 to December 2023, will include construction of the 55-kilometre ETL 180 from Brunsbüttel to Hetlingen/Stade, which will connect the FSRU to the German gas transmission network.
After conclusion, Brunsbüttel will feature two LNG tanks, both with a capacity of 165,000 cubic metres, and a regasification plant. The project is estimated to annually transport 8 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year.
