McDermott, a US-based engineering solutions company, has secured an engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction (EPFC) contract for the Woodfibre LNG project in Canada.
The LNG project, located 7km west-southwest of Squamish in British Columbia, is advancing to begin pre-construction of a single-line LNG export facility on the site of the previous Woodfiber pulp mill.
The Woodfiber LNG facility has a storage capacity of 250,000m³ and is expected to generate approximately 2.1m tonnes of LNG per year using 100% renewable hydroelectric technology.
The LNG project, which is designed to use hydroelectricity for the main liquefaction process, features an advanced technology that allows the liquefaction machinery to be restarted without flaring, recycling system for boil-off gas, and additional transformers, switchgear and transmission lines.
In addition to the EPFC work, McDermott will also be responsible for commissioning and start-up services.
The firm intends to begin pre-installation work for the project early next year and gradually accelerate by September 2023, when significant construction is anticipated to be commenced.
Major works are expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2027.
