Nawah Energy, a joint venture between the United Arab Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), has commissioned Unit 2 of the UAE's 5.6GW Barakah nuclear power plant. 
The Baraka nuclear power plant, located in the Al Dhafra area of Abu Dhabi, will have four units, each having a capacity of 1.4GW. Unit 1 of the power plant began commercial operation in April 2021. After the commissioning of the remaining two units, the nuclear power plant, the first of its kind in the UAE, will offset over 21m tons of carbon emissions annually.
Unit 2 of the Barakah nuclear energy plant is equipped with the APR-1400 nuclear reactor designed by Korea Electric Power Corporation. Its construction will end in July 2020.
