Eni has announced an oil discovery in Upper Miocene sequences on the Sayulita Exploration Prospect in the mid-deep water of the Cuenca Salina Sureste Basin. According to preliminary calculations, the discovery may contain between 150 and 200m boe.
The Sayulita-1 EXP that led to this discovery was the seventh well successfully drilled in the Cuenca Salina/Sureste Basin by Eni offshore Mexico and the second commitment well in Block 10.
The discovery is about 70km off the coast and only 15km away from the last Susken’s oil find, which will be appraised at the end of the year. The Valaris 8505 semisub rig drilled the well in a water depth of 325, reaching a total depth of 1,758 metres ssl.
In the Upper Miocene sequences, Sayulita-1 EXP discovered 55 metres of net pay of high-quality oil. The well has undergone extensive data collection, and the results show that it has a production capability of up to 3,000 barrels of oil per day.
The result, which follows the 2020 discovery well Saasken 1 EXP, confirms the value of the assets and opens the potential commercial outcome of Block 10, since many other prospects located nearby may be grouped in collaborative development.
