Bringing the first well on stream, Santos and its partners have begun production from the US$235m phase 3C infill drilling programme of the Bay-Undan field, offshore Timor-Leste. One of the main objectives of this phase is to develop additional natural gas and liquids reserves for extending field life.
Santos is the operator of the Bayu-Undan joint venture, holding 43.4% of the shares, and had taken a final investment decision (FID) on the project in January 2021. Its partners in Bayu-Undan are K E&S (25%), INPEX (11.4%), Eni (11%), JERA (6.1%) and Tokyo Gas (3.1%).
The 3C infill drilling campaign phase involves the use of the Noble Tom Prosser jack-up drilling platform to drill three productions wells in the Timor Sea. Of these, one is a subsea well, while the other two are platform wells.
The first well is producing 178m standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 11,350 barrels per day (bbl/d) of liquids, according to Santos. The production of the liquids at the Bayu-Undan field has increased to more than 25,000bbl/d.
The 3C infill drilling campaign will be completed in early 2022.
