Data agency GlobalData predicts that the planned and announced projects in the Middle East will lead the global gas processing industry’s capacity growth over the next four years. It will also account for about 37% of global natural gas processing capacity growth by the mid-decade.
The Middle East is expected to have a new-build gas processing capacity of 21bn cubic feet per day (bcfd) by 2025. Of this, 19.4 bcfd will come from approved planned projects, and the rest will be made up of announced projects that have not been approved.
The leading data agency has identified the former Soviet Union as the region with the second-highest growth in natural gas processing capacity in the world and will add 16.0 bcfd of new capacity by 2025. The Ust-Luga plant is expected to have the highest production capacity, with 4.3 bcfd of gas processing capacity, and the Amur-2 plant, in southeastern Russia, is expected to rank second, with 2.7 bcfd of gas processing capacity.
North America is set to be the third-highest region for gas processing growth, with a new-build capacity of 12.4 bcfd by 2025.
