With a proposed project of up to 760MW, Ørsted has submitted a bid to the Maryland Public Service Commission to develop Skipjack Wind 2. The Danish developer’s proposal is designed to support the successful development of this new project, which will power over 250m Delmarva homes.
Ørsted, as a company committed to environmental justice initiatives, will help establish that the state’s underserved communities have equal access to the opportunities presented by the wind industry.
The project will be a partnership with local school districts, communities and universities and will provide a considerable number of resources to sponsors the development of many projects.
Furthermore, Skipjack Wind 2 will also support the efforts of those organisations to preserve the regions’ world-class coastal habitat through Ørsted's mission to lead industry-wide sustainability achievements.
The company is currently developing Skipjack Wind 1, a 120MW project that is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026. It is expected to create approximately 14,000 Maryland jobs and spur at least US$200m in the region’s economic investment.
