MOL Group has inaugurated a 10MW green hydrogen facility in Hungary. The plant was developed to reduce the carbon footprint of the Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta.
The multinational oil and gas company invested approximately €22m for the construction of the plant, which was designed to reduce over 25,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year from the refinery.
Production is scheduled to start in the second half of the year. The green hydrogen output will be mainly used in its own fuel production network.
MOL Group has also stated that the natural gas production process will be gradually replaced by the green hydrogen technology.
