Shell has disclosed that the construction phase at LNG Canada in Kitimat, British Columbia, are nearly complete. Commissioning and start-up works should begin any time soon.
According to Jason Klein, LNG Canada's CEO, the construction of the terminal is the largest private investment in the history of Canada. Also according to him, commercial operations are scheduled for mid-2025.
The facility, which is product of a joint venture formed by Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi and Korea Gas Corporation, is planned to have a production capacity of 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Further expansions, which would include four more trains in addition to the initial two, are also considered.
