The state of New York has granted Equinor and Orsterd and Eversource with two offshore wind farm projects in its fourth offshore wind solicitation round. Equinor has been awarded the 810MW Empire Wind 1 project, while Orsted and Eversource received the 924MW Sunrise Wind.
Once both the facilities are commissioned, a stage scheduled for 2026, they will operate for over 35 years. Empire Wind 1 and Sunrise Wind are so far the largest power generations plants in New York.
Construction works at both projects' sites, which have already acquired most of the necessary governmental approvals, should begin before the end of 2024.
