Alcemi has received planning permission for the development of two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Scotland. Combined, the two facilities will feature a total capacity of 1.5GW.
The plants are the 1GW/2GWh Rawhills in Coalburn and the 500MW/1,000MWh Devilla energy storage projects in Fife.
Both the BESS plants have been designed in a partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' (CIP's) Flagship Funds. In December 2023, CIP had already stated that the Devilla project was ready for construction.
A final investment decision (FID) on the projects should be taken later in 2024, with civil works soon following.
