Avangrid (part of the Iberdrola Group) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have announced that the Vineyard wind power project has reached first power. Installed offshore Massachusetts, US, the project's first operational turbine has produced approximately 5MW of power.
Further testing is scheduled in the upcoming weeks for the four turbines that remain to be commissioned, and it is anticipated that the wind park will see the five installed turbines operating at their maximum capacity early this year.
Once at full capacity, Vineyard should be able to power over 400,000 homes in Massachusetts.
