The Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has voted in favour of the Common solar farm project. It consists of a 49MW solar plant in South Yorkshire, UK, which will also feature a 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS) element.
The initiative is under development by Banks Renewables. The company intends to install the facility in a 116ha area west of the Todwick Road Industrial Estate in Dinnington.
Both the solar farm and its BESS unit will be connected to the Thurcroft substation near the project’s site. With the approval of the Council, the application now moves to the assessment of the Secretary of State.
