Aker BP has announced a new oil discovery in the North Sea. After completing the drilling of the 25/4-15 wildcat well, which intended to encounter petroleum in the Heimdal Formation, the company found a 31.5m oil column there.
The well, drilled by Saipem’s Scarabeo 8 semi-submersible rig, is part of the permitting licence 919 in Block 25/4. Dubbed Ve discovery, it is located 5km west of the Vilje field.
The size of the discovery is estimated to be between 0.5 and 0.8 million standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable oil, and the licensees intend to evaluate the discovery alongside other nearby discoveries with an eye towards potential development.
