The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has decided to grant the Mohmand hydro power project in Pakistan a loan of US$240m for its development. To be built in the Swat River, Mohmand is planned to have a capacity of 800MW.
Previously dubbed Munda, the initiative is also co-financed by OPEC, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
Besides power generation, the Mohmand dam will also be able to storage approximately 1.6 million m³ of water, supporting agriculture in the area.
