A new partnership formed by Energy Vault and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has announced a project for the installation of a battery plus green hydrogen energy storage system (BH-ESS) in California, United States.
Energy Vault, a Switzerland-based energy storage solutions company, will be the owner, operator, and maintainer of the 293MWh facility, whose capacity is likely to expand to 700MWh in the future.
Following a long-term tolling agreement, stored power will be dispatched to PG&E.
Construction of the BH-ESS plant will start in late 2023, while start-up is scheduled for mid-2024. After completion, the project will be the US’ first and largest green hydrogen project of its kind.
