Production has started at the Johan Sverdrup Phase 2 project in the central portion of the North Sea, according to Norwegian operator Equinor. Johan Sverdrup is the third largest oil field offshore Norway.
After Phase I was concluded in October 2019, the company has invested approximately NOK48bn (US$4.8bn) in the completion of Phase II.
Phase II covered the installation of a new platform, five new subsea systems, 28 wells, a new module for the already existing rising platform, and structures to transfer power from shore to Utsira High, where Johan Sverdrup is located.
In total, Johan Sverdrup’s production capacity is calculated at 720,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), with a possible expansion to 755,000bopd.
