Unlocking Opportunities in Sustainable Energy
26th - 27th February 2025 | London, UK
#unlockingopportunities
Organised by
Bankable Energies is a major new event that will bring together the global investment community, key project developers, and policymakers to discuss the global shift needed to attract investment and drive projects forward. Despite the urgency to meet net zero targets, many companies and nations are struggling to make a reality of their commitments, pushing back timelines, and falling short of 2030 interim net zero goals. According to EICDataStream, the current pace of projects reaching financial investment decision (FID) in renewables and emerging markets does not reflect the trajectory necessary to achieve global net zero targets.
This event serves as a pivotal platform to unite the global energy and investment community in discussions to drive action. Join us as we explore solutions to unlock investment for future projects, discuss the policy and regulatory considerations required to accelerate new energy initiatives and highlight the strategies for managing risk associated with future projects.
Welcome and framing the day, Launch of Bankable Energies Report.
Following last year’s deep dive into key energy projects, this year’s session takes a fresh look at what has changed over the past 12 months. Our Data Expert will explore which major projects have advanced, which have stalled or been cancelled, and what these developments reveal about the evolving energy landscape. Joining the discussion will be a contributor to the Bankable Energies report, bringing additional insight into investment trends, risk factors, and the projects shaping the sector’s future.
Setting the tone for the event, the panel discussion will bring together senior representatives from across the energy and finance sectors to assess the current state of the energy transition. The discussion will provide insights on what energy projects are a reality and should be prioritised for FID, highlighting the challenges around risk, finance models and policy framework.
Energy projects carry risks at every stage, from development through to operation, and success is shaped by how those risks are shared. This panel brings together voices from across the value chain to explore real world approaches to risk allocation, from public to private collaboration and contractual frameworks to credit enhancements.
This session provides a clear overview of the financial, legal, insurance and asset finance considerations that shape project bankability. Speakers will outline recent developments in financing structures, underwriting practices, contractual frameworks, and regulatory requirements, highlighting how each discipline influences investment decisions. The session will also explore how asset finance models, such as leasing, vendor backed financing and asset backed structures are being used to accelerate deployment of clean energy technologies. Drawing on recent examples, the presentations will unpack the legal and insurance implications of changing subsidies, shifting policy frameworks, and evolving project timelines.
While market trends and insurance practices shape project bankability, scaling clean energy requires practical tools to mobilise capital. This session focuses on solutions that enable investment, from blended finance and guarantees to risk sharing mechanisms and long-term revenue certainty. Building on these, the panel will also examine asset finance as a practical deployment tool, exploring how leasing models, asset backed structures, and OEM supported financing can reduce upfront capital requirements, strengthen supply chain investment, and accelerate the delivery of renewable and low carbon technologies.
This session will provide insight into the different processes and funding options available for projects across the UK and Europe that have reached, or are close to reaching, Final Investment Decision (FID). Speakers will unpack the lessons learned, the key challenges overcome, and the insights that can be applied across the wider sector. They will also share the journey from early development through to investment approval, offering valuable perspectives on what it takes to secure FID in today’s rapidly evolving energy landscape.
To provide a high-level response to the day’s discussions and signal how government, finance, and industry will work together to accelerate investment into bankable clean energy projects.
