Nuclear energy has a huge potential to provide Europe with an effective, efficient and reliable energy alternative to fossil fuels.
Vast amounts of carbon-free energy can be generated from nuclear power which benefits from being able to operate and generate energy continuously; in contrast to the intermittency of many other renewable sources.

| Why should we be looking at a Nuclear energy future?

  • Nuclear can help meet energy demands

  • It is inexpensive. Nuclear power stations are cost effective, with low running costs and longevity

  • Nuclear power is widely considered to be the safest and most efficient energy source for generating electricity

  • It is environmentally friendly. It is one of the most low-carbon energy sources

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine many countries, particularly in Europe, are looking towards alternative energy sources to Russian oil and gas to improve energy security. Of these alternative sources, nuclear has shown to be a solution to the long-term energy security of many European countries. Because of delays in the roll out of energy transition technologies and a need for a diverse energy mix, some countries such as Greece and Belgium have now reversed their previous nuclear phase out commitments.

So what are Europe’s nuclear ambitions? According to EICDataStream, over 50GW of nuclear power capacity is expected to come online in Europe by 2050 which would significantly improve long-term energy security as well as avoid emissions from energy generation. Join TUV SUD and their guests as they discuss the significant potential of nuclear power in Europe and why we should be looking to nuclear energy to fuel a green future.
