About this event
There are some new and significant developments on the first Turkish Nuclear new build project with a Turkish consortium taking up to a 49% stake in the project. This strategic move by Turkish industry is designed to open up significant additional opportunities for localisation and the supply chain. At present, Turkish companies have limited direct experience of working on NPP projects and as part of a qualified Nuclear supply chain but are very keen to build long term capability and competence to support the plants in Turkey and the wider region through collaboration with Russian, Chinese and Japanese Nuclear plant vendors.
There are also strong indications that the Turkish government is seeking to accelerate the programmes and to this end are establishing a government led board of nuclear experts led by the President’s office. The first meeting will be at the International Nuclear Power Plant Summit in Istanbul on 8/9 March.
It is clear that Turkish industry regards this first project as an opportunity to build supply chain positions for all three proposed programmes at Akkuyu, Sinop and Igneada and at present more than twenty Turkish companies have expressed an interest in meeting with UK partners able to work with them to jointly develop business on relevant scope areas. The areas of specifc interest include:
- Project and programme management and
- Equipment supply and qualification
Clearly this may also include relevant qualified engineering design and licensing / code compliance.
Construction will begin this year (2017) so this is a timely chance to create partnerships for tangible opportunities and to identify elements of the programme that can be delivered jointly which may not yet have been considered.
DIT is supporting this strategic opportunity at the Istanbul International Nuclear Power Plant summit on 8/9 March with a view to industry relationship development and is able to offer free event tickets and display space on a first come, first served basis. The format is likely to be based around two workshops to introduce and explore options followed by such individual discussions as are useful.
As this is quite soon, please contact DIT if you wish to be part of this delegation as a matter of urgency to enable join the discussions with a view to establishing a supply chain position on the projects and in the region? Our proposed delegation is growing quickly and an early response would be helpful in making arrangements for the workshops.
