Minas Gerais Breakfast: Gas Market Opportunities with TAG and Actemium
TAG owns the country’s most extensive gas transportation pipeline network, spanning around 4,500 km and crossing nearly 200 municipalities across 10 Brazilian states. Approximately 3,700 km are located along the coastal region – in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro – with a further 800 km (approx.) in Amazonas.
The company’s shareholders include ENGIE, which holds a 50% stake. ENGIE is a major player in the global energy transition, committed to accelerating the shift towards a carbon-neutral economy and, in Brazil, is a leading reference in 100% renewable energy, operating in power generation, commercialisation and transmission, gas transportation and energy solutions. The remaining 50% is owned by La Caisse, a global investment group with a strong presence in Brazil.
Nova Transportadora do Sudeste (NTS) is one of the country’s leading gas pipeline operators, with more than 2,000 km of pipelines connecting the largest industrial centres in the Southeast. The company is at the forefront of major expansion and integration projects within the national network, such as the South Pre-Salt Corridor, which foresees the duplication of 300 km of pipelines and the construction of new compression stations, increasing gas transportation capacity from 15 to 25 million m³/day.
Among the initiatives aimed at extending gas supply further inland, a key project is the Bragança Paulista–Extrema pipeline, which will expand distribution into Minas Gerais, meeting the region’s growing industrial demand and enabling new connections with Gasmig.
Another highlight is the Raia Receipt Point in Macaé (RJ), which will allow the injection of up to 16 million m³/day of pre-salt gas operated by Equinor from 2028. NTS is also advancing on the North Fluminense Integration Pipeline (Gasinf), a 105 km branch that will connect the Port of Açu to its network, with an initial capacity of 12 million m³/day and an estimated investment of R$6 billion, in partnership with Gás Natural Açu (GNA).
