About this event

India has set a target of achieving 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030, up from current 100 GW, which will help reduce its heavy dependence on fossil fuel (84% of crude oil and 53% of natural gas import) and also to aid in meeting its carbon emission goals under the Paris agreement. Government of India National Hydrogen Mission launched in 2021. With the announcement of the National Hydrogen Policy and subsequently making the National Hydrogen Energy Mission operational, India plans to set up 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 with a key focus on developing cost effective solutions for electrolyser manufacturing, hydrogen storage and its transportation.

In April 2022, both the UK and Indian Prime Ministers appreciated the ongoing cooperation on the development and deployment of affordable green hydrogen for both countries, including through the India-UK Science and Innovation Partnership on Green Hydrogen and joint work on a Green Hydrogen Hub.

The Government aims to develop India as a global hydrogen manufacturing hub and is developing a policy framework to support manufacturing via incentives and facilitation, demand creation by hard to abate industries (refineries, cement, steel, fertilizer) and its demonstrations in Transport applications.

The key opportunities for the UK supply chain companies are in the following areas:
- Electrolyser Technologies (PEM, AEM, MF) and allied industries for Hydrogen production;
- Hydrogen storage solutions (cylinders, tanks and other forms);
- Hydrogen blending with natural gas in existing country wide pipeline infrastructure;
- Hydrogen Mobility for Transport vehicles with IC engines and Fuel Cells;
- Usage of Hydrogen for Coaches, Trains, Marine, Industries; and
- Hydrogen Safety and Regulatory Framework

DIT India Energy team had brought the Indian Hydrogen delegation to Birmingham and Edinburgh in June 2022 and now would like to invite UK supply chain companies to join us for the Hydrogen Association of India (HAI) 09th Annual International Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Conference in New Delhi in December 2022 (https://www.hai.org.in/) as per the following schedule:

To register and send your EOI, please contact Mr Milind Godbole, Senior Energy Adviser and Hydrogen Lead for the DIT India (milind.godbole@fcdo.gov.uk / +91 9727716085)
