About this event

About the Event

The Floating Offshore Wind industry is continuing its trend towards commercialisation, with larger scale projects now at various stages in the UK, Ireland, Norway, and the Mediterranean and Asia-Pacific markets such as Japan and South Korea.  At the same time, R&D into floating platform technologies is ongoing, with various concepts now on the market.
The sector also continues to offer opportunities for companies already involved in marine industries, such as offshore oil and gas developments, looking for diversification and new markets. Floating Offshore Wind opens up vast wind resources in environments with water depths greater than 60 metres, often inaccessible to bottom-fixed solutions, making it particularly interesting for markets such as Japan, Portugal, the western coast of the US and also here in the UK. With the launch of the ScotWind seabed leasing round in 2020 - the first round for offshore windfarms in Scottish waters for a decade - the region in particular is becoming a hotspot for future opportunities, with huge traction from major developers and oil & gas players looking to place bids in this auction.

But is it all plain sailing? Offshore wind farms are expensive to build and maintain, require substantial investment in large port infrastructure, can cause problems for ocean creatures and seabirds, so do the benefits outweigh the disadvantages? With the market's capacity growth and technology accelerating at rapid speeds, can the supply chain scale up at the same pace to deliver?

Whether you are already involved in FOW projects or are exploring new opportunities, this is an unmissable webinar to hear all the latest sector news from some of the biggest players in this field.
