About this event

Why Uganda and Kenya?

East Africa offers significant opportunities for the British oil and gas supply chain. Uganda, led by Total S.A., is expecting to see upwards of $10 billion of capital expenditure to develop the sizeable onshore oil reserves, associated pipeline infrastructure and a new refinery. These developments have unique environmentally sensitive challenges associated with them and the requirement for quality proven technology is vital to ensure that the impact of any work is kept to a minimum. To do business successfully in market, it is important to understand the local content legislation and the requirement for a local presence in country.

Kenya also has several developments that will require multi billion dollars’ worth of capital expenditure. Commercial quantities of oil were found at the beginning of the decade and numerous wells have been drilled since proving up significant volumes of gas. Tullow leads the way in terms of developments and plans to make a final investment decision on the South Lokichar Development, which will be developed in phases, and associated pipeline in 2019 with first oil in 2022.

These developments will offer sizeable opportunities for the UK supply chain.

What our delegates have said:

"I felt the visit gave me a great opportunity to understand the business climate in country from both the O&G perspective and the general market needs of the country. Certainly, attending as part of the delegation gave me access to areas, companies and organizations that as an individual would not be possible. The ‘busy’ aspect of the time in country meant that we were able to both cover a decent spectrum of subjects as well as justify the costs to our respective companies."

"This was a wonderful introduction to a new country, with useful dialogue with clients, Government and the president!"

"The EIC provided a full and relevant schedule with the opportunity to meet with key contacts within our industry segment."

"The delegation was very useful to get an understanding of the country’s petrochemical and infrastructure market. Getting in there early and seeing the project sites are key for us to develop our bidding strategy and local contacts."
