About this event

Join the EIC and TotalEnergies on 12 August for a deep dive into Offshore opportunities within Suriname projects.

In October 2024, TotalEnergies announced a $10.5 billion investment in Suriname for the development of the GranMorgu project, located in Block 58. Scheduled to begin operations in 2028, the deepwater project will have the capacity to produce up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day and treat up to 500 million cubic feet of associated gas daily. The useful life of the field is estimated at between 20 and 25 years.

The GranMorgu field comprises the Sapakara and Krabdagu wells and holds estimated recoverable reserves of 750 million barrels. TotalEnergies operates Block 58 with a 50% stake, while the American firm APA Corporation holds the remaining 50%. Staatsolie, Suriname’s national oil company, is expected to acquire up to a 20% interest in the development.

As part of project execution, TotalEnergies has contracted SBM Offshore and Technip Energies to build and deliver an FPSO unit. SBM Offshore is responsible for the hull, while Technip Energies will handle topsides integration. The FPSO will be anchored at a depth of approximately 400 metres and is designed with a storage capacity expected to reach up to 2 million barrels. The vessel will feature an all-electric configuration, eliminate routine gas flaring, and reinject all associated gas, aligning with TotalEnergies’ climate goals and SBM Offshore’s carbon efficiency objectives. Overall construction of the GranMorgu FPSO has reached 27% and is progressing toward first oil in 2028. This will be Suriname's first major deepwater oil project, located near ExxonMobil's discoveries in neighboring Guyana, reinforcing the region's role as an emerging energy frontier in South America.
