About this event
Please note that the date of this event has changed to the 10 June. The EIC’s Power Sector-Based Forum provides members with an opportunity to discuss new projects, project updates, political and technical factors and trends affecting the sector. March’s meeting will deliver an overview of existing sector activities and potential areas of opportunity as identified by the EIC.
In addition to this, we are delighted to have National Grid join us to provide an overview/update on the Electricity Market Reform (EMR) and the Capacity Mechanism and the impact these initiatives may have on UK power projects.
Due to plant closures in the UK and the necessary replacements and upgrades to the electricity infrastructure, the UK electricity sector will need around £110 billion of capital investment over the next 10 years. In order to attract this investment, modifications to the existing market need to be introduced. The EMR initiative has been introduced by government to facilitate large-scale investment in low-carbon generation capacity in the UK and deliver security of supply, in a cost-effective way. It proposes a package of mechanisms to encourage investment including a Capacity Mechanism (CM), Feed-in Tariff with Contracts for Difference (FiT CfD) and Emission Performance Standards (EPS).
National Grid is fully supportive of the principles and aims of the EMR put forward by government and are currently reviewing the detail and processes regarding the delivery. They will join EIC members in March to outline the EMR and Capacity Mechanism initiatives and provide an overview of the impact these may have on UK power projects.
