About this event
With over 5GW of capacity now installed, the UK is recognised as the global leader in offshore wind. The UK has developed a sustainable and growing market that not only offers opportunity to local supply chain companies but simultaneously lends itself to international collaboration.
Already boasting the highest number of operational projects in the world, an extra 5GW of UK offshore wind capacity is expected to be installed by 2020.
Across Europe, offshore wind markets are also offering lucrative contracting opportunity and actively encourage UK expertise. With an increasing number of projects coming online and entering development, Europe’s offshore wind industry is thriving and UK companies can take advantage of the rich export opportunities.
Opportunities in the offshore wind sector are not limited to companies already operating in the renewables space as many of the elements required for the development of an offshore wind project have already been developed by the UK’s oil and gas sector. Capabilities for supplying to the offshore wind industry already exist and are readily transferable.
Offshore wind is a key area of growth in the UK and globally. The EIC produced an insight report at the end last year outlining opportunities in the home market and in Europe and the USA. The EIC continue to track these key areas of investment and project development on EICDataStream.
