The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) classifies hazardous areas into three different zones: Zone 0 where an explosive atmosphere is consistently present, Zone 1 where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur and Zone 2 where an explosive atmosphere is unlikely to occur.
