TenneT starts work on 380kV transmission line in Germany
07 December, 2017
Dutch transmission operator TenneT has started construction of its 380kV power line in Germany, connecting Meppen in North-Rhine Westphalia with the grid hub at Dörpen West, Lower Saxony.
The 30km transmission connection will help to accommodate a growing amount of electricity from offshore wind farms to the national grid.
DolWin3, a 900MW offshore grid connection system, will be operational in late 2018 and will connect Ørsted’s 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 and the 396MW Merkur offshore wind farms to the onshore converter station in Dörpen West.
The transmission line is expected to be complete within 18 to 24 months, and will feature a 3.1km underground section, the first of its kind in Germany.
