Siemens wins 900MW DolWin6 grid project contract
17 July, 2017
Dutch transmission system operator TenneT has awarded German multinational Siemens a contract to build and install the 900MW DolWin6 grid hub in the German North Sea.
The project will transmit 900MW of offshore wind power to the shore, enough to supply approximately 1m German homes.
Siemens will supply the entire technology for efficient high-voltage direct-current transmission and will use a DC CS direct-current compact switchgear for the first time.
The DolWin6 grid connection, which is 90km in length, will be able to connect multiple offshore wind turbines to the mainland, with a number of offshore wind farms competing for a connection to DolWin6 in an auction held by the German Gederay Network Agency.
The Gode Wind 3 project has already been awarded a contract to connect to the DolWin6 grid connection.
DolWin6 is scheduled to enter into commercial operations in 2023.
